Kitchen Window View

I am sure it is a great mistake always to know enough to go in when it rains.
One may keep snug and dry by such knowledge,
but one misses a world of loveliness.

  1. So true. I ventured out in the dreary, damp weather today to see some loveliness for my foliage follow-up post :-) A garden blogger's gotta do what a garden blogger's gotta do!

  2. Beautiful!! I love how wild everything looks! I wouldn't be surprised to see a lion's tail peeking through the grass. :o)

  3. So true, Toni, so true!

TS - lots of wild out there...mostly rattle snakes, scorpions, spiny lizards, coyotes, and tons of birds. Oh yes, and those pesky little bunnies that I have a love/hate relationship with!

  4. Great quote, Cat -- one I didn't heed today, sitting inside nice and toasty by the fire. But I am glad you ventured out and got that absolutely lovely image.

  8. Thanks RBell...I thought they were particularly striking today as they were saturated with the recent rains.

  9. I love the different colors of foliage you see out your kitchen window! I like that sentiment about the rain, too.

Oh, and I have a love/hate relationship with the squirrels, but the rabbits, I am very mad at for being so destructive last summer. I don't think I like them at all.

  13. Lovely image, Cat and beautiful quote too. I don't mind the dreary weather too much. I've been out in it a *lot* lately, (walking puppies 5 times a day) and there really is so much peaceful beauty in all the landscapes, resting in the cold weather. The grasses are so lovely, full of mist and dew. And your quote is so true, I would have missed all that if I were not out in it. Thank you for your insight.

  15. So far the squirrels aren't on my bad side! The bunnies though! Oh, they love my black-eyed Susans a little too much!

    Thanks Caroline!

Thanks Donna. It has taken a while for our landscape to reflect the winter conditions but it has finally succumbed.

    Absolutely Gail!

Thank you Diane. Puppies are like children in that they give you a whole new reason to explore the world differently. They are so sweet and adorable...As I was walking yesterday the colors of the grasses were so rich and I tried to capture that richness in the photo...it was hard to get the camera to reveal what I was actually seeing but I think this image comes pretty close.

  16. Thanks Cat for stopping in at GWGT and leaving your thoughtful comment. I agree we do have to more conscious with water usage. I am now collecting snow in barrels, like I do with rain in summer. They are in the garage so the snow melts and not much water is generated, but I keep piling it in. By spring I will have full barrels.

  17. Very cool photo--the white branches emerging from the sea of brown. Now that's a view that should be amazing to watch as it changes with the seasons.

  19. That is a great idea Donna, you'll be glad you did when the water bills start rolling in this summer.

Thanks James. You just gave me a good idea...I should take the same shot through the seasons so I can compare them...thanks!

Thanks Carol...the light was so pretty yesterday - it was richer than it had been in weeks!

  20. Whimsy girl that is gorgeous foliage (I know people might groan at this .. but it puts me in a Halloween frame of mind ? LOL) I love the quote .. some of my most favorite moments have been alone in the garden when a soft rain shower starts .. the smell of the air .. the birds reaction .. the feel when it is so refreshing, it is perfect .. and I try to move beyond the literal meaning of the quote too!
    wink wink
