Autumn Reflections :: Turnin' From the Past, At Last

Now the wren has gone to roost and the sky is turnin' gold
And like the sky my soul is also turnin'
Turnin' from the past, at last and all I've left behind

Daisy Love

The last daisy of the season might imply summer but there is no mistaking autumn's enchanting light.

October, Already? Happy Fall ♥

The day I glanced into a seldom used room and noticed that beautiful autumn light...sigh.

She'll Be Back

Ah!  Look!  A butterfly!

These words drifted through the window and pulled me from the comfort of my chair.   A small girl excited by the sight of a butterfly stood open mouthed; transfixed by the acrobatic, graceful movements.  And I too stood transfixed, marveling at this small child's delight in her simple discovery.

She gets it, I thought to myself.  She really gets it.  A smile opened itself wide on both our faces as we shared the moment.  She reluctantly trailed after her companion and I wanted to yell, wait, wait ... you haven't seen the hummingbirds yet or the many lizards or the swallowtails.  But I think she knows.  She'll be back.

Joy was written all over her face.

And What a Wonderful World It Is

If you take a flower in your hand and really look at it, it's your world for a moment.

North Wind Blowin' - Winter Eve

"A cold wind was blowing from the north, and it made the trees rustle like living things."

Saved From Frost and Livin' Easy

The Livin' Easy is just that ... livin' easy.  A bud rescued from frost to quietly grace the window ledge  has opened up into full blossom.   Amazing how a single rose can light up the whole room ... just like a smile.

Even After All This Time

Even
After
All this time
The Sun never says
to the Earth,
"You owe me."
Look
What happens
With a love like that.
It lights the
Whole
Sky.

fourteenth century poet Hafez

What Say You, Wise Ones?

These lovely, golden orbs hang delightfully over my side fence ... there are dozens of ripening oranges ... so what say you, wise people ... are they mine?  What is the proper etiquette for fruit hanging over a fence line? Do I harvest them when ready and take them to my friendly neighbor or do I casually pluck a few here and there for a sweet snack?  Please do share your thoughts ... I'm eager to hear what you have to say.

"Neighbors, I'm on the fence about them."

The Beauty of Seed Time and Harvest

Thanksgiving is the holiday of peace, the celebration of work and the simple life ... a true
folk festival that speaks the poetry of the turn of the seasons, the beauty of seed time
and harvest, the ripe product of the year - and the deep, deep connection of
all these things with God.
                                                                                            ~ Ray Stannard Baker

To those celebrating the holiday; Happy Thanksgiving - wishing you and yours a wonderful holiday!

The Importance of Turning Around ...

You can't underestimate the importance of turning around.  I don't know why the view always looks so different, but it does.  While walking in Lost Maples park last week I was admiring the gorgeous sunlit grasses and thought to turn around to see how the light might be playing upon them differently to my back.  And I saw this amazingly lit tree.  It's always worth it, on so many levels, to turn around and see from where you came.
