GBBD ~ My Winter Garden

Welcome Winter 2012!

This has been a beautiful winter so far...a few light freezes but nothing severe and the garden is in a state of quiet.  The stress of the hot, dry summer is behind us and I don't dare let myself dwell too much on what next summer will bring.

The globe mallow is the standout on this garden blogger's bloom day.  It's been going strong since early fall and its tissue paper flowers and fuzzy gray foliage are a welcome sight.  This is one of the few plants that thrived in the heat and drought this summer.  I'll be adding more of this for sure.

The glimpses of orange globe mallow through the kitchen window are so welcome that I couldn't resist bringing a pop of orange inside.  These gorgeous roses have graced the windowsill all week.  They are getting a bit tired but even their slight droop is lovely.

Be sure to stop by May Dreams Gardens to see what others have in bloom this month.

  1. What good advice, to relish in the easy pace of winter and determine to not dwell too much on the future summer. Thank you, and happy winter!

  4. The Pantone color of the year for 2012 is Tropical Tango or something like that. You've toned that into some gorgeous garden shades.

  10. Those roses look very romantic and old-fashioned. I have a Munroe's mallow, but I think it's too hot and dry where I have it, in a deep pot. It is a similar color to yours but tiny flowers.

  13. I agree...globe mallow is one that I plan on adding more of in my garden, too.
    Also, I pulled down my moonflower vine and have some seeds for you. :)

  14. I really like the palette you have chosen..so delicate, and yet colorful. We don't have those colors here in winter, so it is nice to see an offering of soft, beautiful blooms.

  15. Alan, I'm happy to send some seeds...any suggestions for how to collect them? They aren't evident to me when I open up the wilted/dried blooms...I'm more of a propagation by dividing or cuttings kind of girl. These seeds aren't as obvious to me as some others are.

    @Amy, thanks!!
