A Bit of Fragrance

A bit of fragrance always clings to the hand that gives you flowers...

A small gesture presented in the tiniest of packages.   A cherished bouquet gifted to me by my girl.  Whether two or twenty years old, it doesn't matter.  What mother can resist the delight of a child as she proudly surrenders her carefully selected posies chosen just for you?   Sweet moments. Simple joys.

  2. Lovely thoughts. And there are times when I just brush my hands over Rosemary for the scent or break a citrus leaf and carry it with me.....smell triggers something in the back of our minds.....and if it's pleasant, it's a very comforting thing.

    1. You're so right! Thanks for the reminder to grab a citrus leaf. While watering this morning I plucked the leaf off the kaffir lime tree. It's scent is so delicious. I believe I'll make some Thai food this week :)

  6. Cat the photo in combination with the sentiment offered made my morning. Thanks so much for sharing your sweet posy!

If you are going to make Thai I hope you'll share the recipe/results. I currently have a small kaffir lime that is new to our gardens and I'd be tickled to have a recipe to get me successfully started using the leaves in dishes. Have a lovely Sunday.

    1. Deb, I have a recipe for Tom Kha Gai from the Cook's Illustrated test kitchen that I've made for years. The recipe is the whole reason I started growing the kaffir tree! It's in the Jan/Feb 2007 issue (in case you take the magazine).

  11. My sisters and I used to bring my Mom a bouquets of lilacs picked from our yard. She always excepted them with surprise and happiness, and never once complained about us girls tearing up her shrubs, which looking back, I'm sure we did.

  14. How nice. The difference between two and twenty is that the two year old seems to always picks weeds - the twenty year old picks 'real' flowers! ;)

  16. Perfect verse and sentiment... I cherish memories of my daughter's bouquets that were given to me. Now that they are older, I cherish the fact that they are starting to enjoy planting the flowers as much as they once did picking them :)
