Cat, these are fantastic!! I can't believe the color change has begun. Excellent shots. It's happening here in Tucson as well, but the changes are much more subtle. The pine cone shot is my favorite:)
Thank you. I carried a whole bag of pine cones home with me! The foliage shots are not enhanced...the sky was crazy blue and the foliage super vibrant. I actually bumped the saturation down a bit on the last photo because it was so rich in color.
Amazing to see that beautiful yellow against the white bark....they have not turned fully here but we are ahead of schedule...I cannot wait to visit CO again...
Wow! Your gorgeous images epitomize autumn. Our leaves are just starting to tun. It's nice to have you back to blogging. I'm also catching up on household chores.
Subtle or stark, change is in the air, on our minds and in our visions for the days to come. Your beautiful photos capture it all, along with my imagination....
On a more practical level I too have a "Big bag of cones" that I've hauled back from Colorado and other alpinesque visits. I place them by entrances to remind me of crisp air and startling color changes we only see somewhat peripherally if at all here in Central Texas. My other gesture to Fall is exemplified by a couple of sweet schoolhouse lilies (Rhodophiala bifida) in a bed close to the front door. No grove of birch or aspen, certainly, but at least a little pop of seasonal color to enjoy.
Deb, you've captured the sentiment of fall perfectly around these parts. I came home from Co so "fall filled" and am working to stay satisfied with the little signs we have...oxblood and spider lilies, small drifts of aster, and the awakening of summer tired perennials.
It's the golden shimmering aspens in Colorado that make me want to be there at this time of year. I was there this summer, but this is the best time isn't it!
Yes, exactly Laurrie...the way the leaves shimmer, they appear and sound as if they are little coins. This summer my daughter and I hiked in a grove of aspens in NM and it was an amazing experience. So many times while in CO I wondered what that grove looks like now and longed to see it. They are a magnificent tree.
The drought really accelerated fall in a way, but it came out very nice there. (you should see the other colors than yellow on some stands in the high mountains in NM up into Utah)
You know I remember fall being spectacular (well, as spectacular as we get here in Central Texas for fall) last year after the horrendous drought. I was in Vail this time last year and while beautiful, the colors this year in Winter Park seemed much more vivid and intense. There were some groves that were just turning orange/red but they were just too far off to get close to. I took shots from afar but none really captured the feeling I had while seeing them. I hope to see them in all their red glory next year...I'm gonna plan my trip a week later...and pray I don't miss them altogether.
Cat - as with other locations (the Northeast, specifically), one year the leaves will change over Memorial Day weekend and the next they'll change at the end of September. Of course, the leaves change first in the mountains then followed by the tress in the metro area...So when the colors aren't great in the mountains, go to the foothills (Golden, Boulder).

DeleteA nice mix of shots. The trees are not in their autumnal splendour here just yet, but we have very few birch.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I cant believe the color change of the leaves already...breathtaking

DeleteBeautiful photos! Love the color variation. Those golden Aspen look gorgeous against that pretty blue sky.

ReplyDeletelove the aspen trees!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, Cat! Autumn is really showing her colors here in Wisconsin, too. Takes my breath away!
ReplyDeleteTakes me back. A fine September in Colorado. Are you near beuno vista? The mountains look like some of peaks named after the ivy league colleges.
ReplyDeleteHermosas imágenes, las margaritas son mis preferidas!! Un abrazo grande.
ReplyDeleteStopping by, and seeing your post is like breathing fresh air. ('More, please!')
