It's Friday! What Are Your Weekend Gardening Plans? Inspire Me!

I want to hear what you're doing this weekend in the garden!  Inspire me, friends.

  1. I wish I could share something inspirational but I had to start at square one again with the vegetable garden. All of my seedlings got munched to the ground. It was a good excuse for a trip out to Natural Gardener though, a trip in which I purchased lettuce and radicchio transplants which look very pretty all in a row.

    1. Ah, yes! The NG always brings a fresh perspective. Hope all goes well with your new transplants.

  2. It looks like raking, pond cleaning, and digging of elephant ears and cannas for me. I'll probably get 1/2 of that done at most.

I think your task should be to photograph more lizards. It's been a while. :-)

    1. I'm lucky to ever get at least half of my intended chores done, Alan! Nice to hear you like the anole shots. They are all over the place in the garden right now but thought y'all might tire of them. I actually observed one hunting two days ago. He was just a little guy, not very old at all but stealth and successful nonetheless. I'll get busy!

  3. Looking to you to inspire me, Cat! But I might cover some things to keep them going for another week...bummed it is supposed to get cold out here for a few days.

    1. Ha! Don't we all inspire each other! The beauty of the blogosphere and the reason I love all of you so much! Such diversity and knowledge to be found. Sorry you're getting so cold...yes, I would cover...it's always worth the work.

  4. We're retired so weekends are mostly the same.

We are planning a trip to Lost Maples after the holiday weekend crowds thin out.

    1. We were just there on Thursday. We drove out for the day, hiked and had a nice picnic. It was beautiful! There was some fall color but definitely not in full fall mode. Maybe you'll see more.

    2. Thanks, that's good to know. We'll check the foliage watch page before heading out.

  5. If it doesn't rain (but we do need the rain here!), I plant to plant 75 daffodil bulbs that I recently bought in 5 containers and then over plant with petunias or violas. It should be an easy enough task for me. Hope you have a great weekend!

    1. That sounds like a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. And what a treat you'll have this spring!

  6. Haha! I'm going to be watching football! (Alabama is trying to repeat their national championship, and I was born a Tide fan.) The most serious thing I plan to do in the garden is to walk about and shoot a few pictures.

    1. Ah! I'm a football girl too. Longhorns, of course :) Glad you'll be taking time to shoot, it's such a gorgeous time of year and we all benefit from your walk about the garden!

  7. Okay so I don't know if I'll get all of these things accomplished but:

I snagged two small pallets at work and I plan to make one or both into outdoor tables. I need to screw on the legs (fir 4 x 4's), sand and stain the whole thing.
I am also stripping a small metal table and will repaint it when the stripping is complete.
I am moving large heavy concrete garden edging to increase a bed and decrease the area I need to weed/mow.
I am 3/4th finished with this project.
I need to take in two lovely little lanterns to have them rewired for an outside seating area.

    1. Okay, Laura, you win! I'm tired just thinking of all you're going to get accomplished! It sounds like you're going to have an amazing outside seating area when you're finished! Way to go!

  8. Hi Cat, I'm going to be planting my bulbs that I just received in the mail. Some will go in pots and some in the ground. I need to divide some Siberian iris too. Not very inspiring, I'm afraid, but it's such a good time to be outdoors.

  9. After working like crazy for the last two and a half months getting my clients' gardens designed and planted, I FINALLY get a weekend in my own garden. Woo hoo!!! Hoping to get all of my container plantings changed over to cool-season pretties...pansies, kale, dianthus. And maybe, just maybe I will sit down and do a blog post. It's just hard to fit it all in during busy season. It's all good :-)

    1. I've missed you! I hope you'll post your container plantings - they are always so gorgeous and full of inspiration. Welcome back to the land of blogging! Glad you're back!

  10. Oooh- this is fun. Cat - I don't make plans for my gardening much any more. I simply go outside, see how easy the weather might be in terms of creating a good work environment, then tackle the first task that strikes my fancy. There is always something that needs to be done (weed out space to seed in arugula), something I think should be done (trim cannas down to the ground) , and something I want to do (seed in wildflower area) outside. Which task gets tackled first (if at all) is totally up for grabs.

    1. Deb, you and I are two birds of a feather...I'm not much of a planner unless I need my husband to help me with a big project since I'm usually the motivating force in those situations! I hope you get your wildflowers sown, that sounds like the most fun and rewarding (in the long run) to me! Or if you're really like me, you may just sit on the swing and daydream about what you want to get done and soak up this gorgeous fall sunshine. I'm thinking that sounds like a good way to spend an hour or two...

    1. Lucky you, Donna. I'd enjoy a long rain right about now. We are dry still. Good for you for seeing the blessing in being able to weed in November. You always do see the silver lining in your garden!

  12. I don't know how much I'll get done in the garden, although I should be working out there right now! I have Christmas shopping on my mind (I try to finish before Thanksgiving), and I've been busy with that. I have, however, started cleaning my fish pond to repair and repaint it. (Unfortunately, it has a leak.) :( Ugh - such work! And not really fun!

    1. Yeah, I'm looking at my pond like it could use a little love and am not too excited about it. Think I'll probably put it off until spring! Good for you on getting your Christmas shopping done. You'll be able to really enjoy the season.

  13. I'm throwing all the frost bitten tomatoes in the platform feeder, planting 50 drumstick alliums and 10 lily bulbs. Some lily bulbs may go in my neighbors yard if I don't have enough room. :o) Adding bulb fertilizer to the tulip bulbs stuffed in pots on my patio plus some minor puttering. I may re-lay a few soaker hoses if I'm feeling ambitious. Oh yeah, I'm going to add a special microbial based fertilizer to the soil around a few of my plants that struggled this year. Might walk a dog or two. :o)

  14. Big weekend ahead, we're building a fire pit for the cold nights ahead, planting a wildflower meadow, and installing a new planting bed for some veggies. Busy, busy. If only there was a little more day light.

    1. I know. The shorter days make the season change hard to ignore. How nice that you'll have a new fire pit to enjoy this holiday season. Awesome.

  15. Gardening: ha! I'll be raking dead leaves after our frosts. I shall enjoys your blooms vicariously. BTW, I just reviewed a Barbara Kingsolver's latest novel, Flight Behavior, and I think you'd love it. It features Monarch Butterflies and environmental themes.

  16. I hadn't planned for what actually happened. I had a lonnnnngggg to-do list, that included a few gardening chores. Then yesterday came in with perfect (65 degrees) November weather and sunny skies and a light wind. I spent the entire day outside, tidying up the garden, watching the migrating birds, and snapping way too many photos. It was a perfect day! I hope you had a wonderful weekend, too?!

    1. Oh those are the best kind of gardening days! The ones you didn't think you were going to get! Lucky you. So glad you had a day in the garden to enjoy...and we'll get to enjoy it too through your posts!

  17. Fall clean up chores here. Such a pleasure though as the weather has been perfect. Not too hot, not too cold.

  18. Hi Cat, I almost embarrassed to admit that I still have leaves to rake and bulbs still to plant - and it is half way through November!!! I am not sure this would motivate anyone. The weather has been wonderfully warm though and that is enough to inspire anyone to get out in the garden.

  19. Hi Cat, a friend is coming to look at the garden, and that always inhibits me. So I'm not doing any gardening, just thinking about it, and wandering in it. Essential activities, I find, for inspiration and for general calming. If I do anything, it will 'path liberation'.
