It's been eight dry, long months since we've had any significant rain. Yesterday the skies finally opened and beautiful sheets of rain poured down on the city. We are rejoicing and the parched earth released a sigh of relief.
Good for you! The pictures totally show the peace that can come with rain. When everybody is just standing still watching the rain come down. Take care and have a great weekend hopefully with more rain, Sandra
Hi Cat, We haven`t gone as long as eight months, but we have had less than 10% of the average rainfall here in the east of the U.K. over the past two months. Crops are failing, streams are running dry and gardens are suffering, even the trees are shedding their leaves in desperation! Some rain is forecast this weekend, so I am keeping my fingers crossed! 8 long months is a very long time. I am happy to see rain in your photos. If we have no rain in 8 days, I'll be really worried. Forest fire burning again in neighboring country, a yearly affair...
Goodness, that rather puts our complaints about no rain in April into perspective! The garden must be sighing in relief. BTW, partly inspired by your yellow aquilegias under your acer, I came back from the Malvern Spring Show with some of my own, so thank you!
What a relief! I like what you said: "the parched earth released a sigh of relief." I've felt that, too, after long dry spells. And your photos are stunning, as always!
We got a little of it, but not near enough. I am so tired of trying to keep my transplants (barely) alive, I'm not sure how much longer they'll make it. Glad you got some rain. There's nothing better for the garden!
Eight months is really long time without water...never happened here. I'm really glad it did come now, nature is thanking also I believe:) I love your pictures so wonderful light and colors.
Still praying for more than a passing shower here Cat especially seeing these dark skies and watery shots. Love your raindropped waterlillies - are they in a container? Laura
We’ve had the opposite problem in Maine: weeks of rain. Luckily they were broken with a few sunny days on weekends. This weekend is a wash out, but at least the grass is green and everything is blooming. I love your images of rain, though, especially your stormy skies. Wow!
Yes I heard you finally had some rain - I'm sure you'll notice so much growth over the next few days. Lovely collages Cat. Pop over to my photography blog some day as I am alot more creative there with my flower photos than in my gardening blog. I can see you have a good eye for making a good composition.
8 months! goodness that's an awful long time without water. I had no idea it was so dry there. Seems we've had the opposite effect in my corner of the world. Many months of unusually large amounts of snow followed by months of steady rain. My yard is a pool right now.
I want to sit on that bench swing! I'm glad you had some rain, and hope you get some more. We had over 2 inches in the last few days, and now, it is too wet to plant. I won't complain, though, because the things I did get planted are doing quite well.
Amen! We had 1.5 inches in San Antonio. Every plant in the yard looks relieved.
ReplyDeleteI too am refreshed and inspired after the rain.

I read 8 months and I was like "Really, it's been 8 months since Hermine?" and yes, yes it has.
ReplyDeleteIt was very welcomed! Cat, your photos are lovely.

ReplyDelete@all - praying that those of you who don't need the rain will dry out and the rest of us will get a little more. It's been a wacky year...
ReplyDeleteLaura, yes, they are Colorado water lilies and I keep them in a stock tank. The tank is 4 feet round and 2 feet deep. I love it!

ReplyDeleteWhat a relief! You got some beautiful, moody shots. I'd be outside with the camera too!
