Oh Yeah, It's Summer!

It seems official, if not by the calendar, at least by the activities, heat and blooms.  The kids are out of school, commencement ceremonies will be underway this afternoon and the summer flowers are blooming!

Zinnias are some of my favorite flowers for their bright, whimsical attitude and they can stand up to the heat like no other!

Bees are buzzing about and when I take a moment to watch them, I'm immediately lulled into the summertime pace.

Another favorite that likes it super hot is the Pale Pavonia.  It bloomed for the first time this season and I'm so thrilled!  It sports the most dainty little flower with exquisite detail.  Although the sun was high overhead, I couldn't resist snapping a shot.  I'll try to capture it in more agreeable light soon so you can see all the detail more clearly.

Lots of wildlife has been spotted this week too.  I'll post about them next week.  Until then, have a wonderful weekend!!

  14. Hi Cat, Wow, you are light years ahead. Echinacea already! And Zinnas too!! (That is a beautiful opening shot BTW) Hot pink and orange zinnas mixed with other late bloomers make up my most favourite summer bouquet of cut flowers. I just love those bright, bold colors. Have a great weekend!

  15. It's been awhile since I've walked through your gardens! Yours are so far ahead of mine... it gives me hope! We've had a wet cold Spring, but even then it's been lovely. We're just about three weeks behind normal here. All good unless Fall comes early. Love your photos as always!
