Summer Solstice ~ Go Ahead, Rest!

Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to
the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across
the sky, is hardly a waste of time.

Hoping that you'll find some time to enjoy a lazy moment or two listening to the murmur of water, watching clouds float across the sky or simply gazing upon the beauty of a summer bloom.   Happy Solstice!

  1. Summer is officially here although it has felt like it for some time now! We are trying to do a lot of resting since it is so stinking hot outside! Love being outside in the evening and listening to all the sounds!

  2. No murmur of water here, but even the traffic going by, mingled with bird sounds and rustling leaves, is a joy on a sunny breezy day. A plane droning overhead, some kids squealing in the distance . . .

    Happy first day of summer!

  4. Love it, Cat! We are heading to our ranch house this weekend to do just that...sit by the river, listen to the babble of the water over the dam and the sounds of the birds all around. Oh yes, the sound of puppies playing in the water too :)
Happy Solstice to you as well!

  5. These days the sound of rain falling would be nice to hear. I definitely don't think that resting is a waste of time, either. Beautiful hibiscus!

  8. I am listening to rain! Much appreciated! I think this is only the second rain of June. More is forecast for the next couple of days. Thanks again for helping me identify my pavonia! I posted on it today.

  9. Heading in Colorado for a couple of days. The sound of the wind rushing through the pines and the smell of humus on the forest floor. Nothing compares to that! Maybe heaven, yes definitely.

  10. Happy Solstice to you too Cat! Although my evening in the garden wasn't restful I was still extremely happy to be outside. The rain held off for a few hours and some much needed work got accomplished.

  14. Thanks for the greeting! I am hoping we get a chance to savor as well. All the work is not worth it if we can't take time to enjoy it.

  16. I love the quote! And of course, the wonderful photos! I can be a bit of an Energizer Bunny and have to remind myself to go do nothing. I have a stack of great books and a big hammock as steady reminders. :o)
