Rest is not idleness, and to lie sometimes on the grass on a summer day listening to
the murmur of water, or watching the clouds float across
the sky, is hardly a waste of time.
~John Lubbock
Hoping that you'll find some time to enjoy a lazy moment or two listening to the murmur of water, watching clouds float across the sky or simply gazing upon the beauty of a summer bloom. Happy Solstice!
Summer is officially here although it has felt like it for some time now! We are trying to do a lot of resting since it is so stinking hot outside! Love being outside in the evening and listening to all the sounds!
ReplyDeleteNo murmur of water here, but even the traffic going by, mingled with bird sounds and rustling leaves, is a joy on a sunny breezy day. A plane droning overhead, some kids squealing in the distance . . .
ReplyDeleteHappy first day of summer!
It's all downhill from here. Nothing left to look forward to but winter!!!
ReplyDeleteLove it, Cat! We are heading to our ranch house this weekend to do just that...sit by the river, listen to the babble of the water over the dam and the sounds of the birds all around. Oh yes, the sound of puppies playing in the water too :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Solstice to you as well!
These days the sound of rain falling would be nice to hear. I definitely don't think that resting is a waste of time, either. Beautiful hibiscus!
ReplyDeleteCat it's not warm enough here to lay in the grass which is too wet anyway but I enjoy the sounds all year especially the birds,
ReplyDeletehappy solstice, Frances
Just happened by and had to follow! So very lovely. Will be back to enjoy more!
ReplyDeleteI am listening to rain! Much appreciated! I think this is only the second rain of June. More is forecast for the next couple of days. Thanks again for helping me identify my pavonia! I posted on it today.
ReplyDeleteHeading in Colorado for a couple of days. The sound of the wind rushing through the pines and the smell of humus on the forest floor. Nothing compares to that! Maybe heaven, yes definitely.
ReplyDeleteHappy Solstice to you too Cat! Although my evening in the garden wasn't restful I was still extremely happy to be outside. The rain held off for a few hours and some much needed work got accomplished.
ReplyDeleteHi Cat,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed scrolling down looking at your latest posts. Your photos are awesome! Yes, it's summer. I am enjoying my yard walks, seeing what's blooming.
I'm having a garden tour at my garden this Saturday. After THAT I will REST :-) If you're near Grapevine on Saturday...stop by :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Cat, that was actually what i want to do just now. But i dont have water here in the 3rd floor office, but i have the sky all to myself. I can almost see the sun farthest from us!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the greeting! I am hoping we get a chance to savor as well. All the work is not worth it if we can't take time to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteYes, let's enjoy! Happy Summer :)
ReplyDeleteI love the quote! And of course, the wonderful photos! I can be a bit of an Energizer Bunny and have to remind myself to go do nothing. I have a stack of great books and a big hammock as steady reminders. :o)
