Black Magic (Colocasia esculenta)

Thankful today that sometimes the view from behind is more enticing than the view from the front!

  1. Beautiful! How large do your 'Black Magic' get Cat? Mine seem to stay pretty small.

  2. So true! Do these have the chocolate brown or purple foliage?

  3. Good point and so true. I love those little "vanes" which I can see and I bet it is not this color from frontside.

  4. Beautiful picture! And a nice reminder that there's always more than just what's on the surface. :)

  5. Sorry for the delayed response, we've been without internet for 3 days!!

Alan, the mature leaves get about 8-10" wide... They are green in the heat of summer and purple (almost black) now that the temps have cooled. The photo was taken with late afternoon light shining through from the front of the leaf.

Karin, the stems are purple and the leaves are such a dark purple they almost appear black. I LOVE this plant! It's kept in a pot so I can keep it as moist as it likes. Next year I may try a pot of it in my stock tank and see how it does there too.

  6. Fantastic shot. I love seeing light shining through leaves. You capture it so much better than I do!
